A white Alabama councilman used the N-word at a council meeting. He says he won’t resign.


An Alabama city councilman is going through phone calls for his resignation after using the N-word, but he claimed he won’t resign and repeated what he heard.

Tommy Bryant, a white Tarrant town councilmen, employed the racial epithet throughout a council meeting on Monday.

“Do we have a house N—- in below?” Bryant requested through the recorded council meeting. “Do we? Do we?”

In an interview with WVTM 13, Bryant claimed he repeated what Mayor Wayman Newton had identified as a fellow council member, Veronica Freeman, in govt session.

“[The mayor] doesn’t need to have to use that expression in entrance of everybody and I believed the town should to know the terminology the mayor employs and I didn’t want him to get away with it,” Bryant reported.
