Fire crews attend a fire at an industrial building in Westbrook, Newbury, after a blaze sent a huge cloud of smoke down the M4.

A Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: ‘At 1.41pm on Saturday April 16, we received reports of a fire at an industrial building in Westbrook, Newbury. Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service teams from Newbury, Theale and two officers have currently been dispatched to the scene, along with teams from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Services.

“Firefighters have discovered a fire involving possible pyrotechnics and fireworks. Cordons are in place but people are asked to stay away from the area while emergency services attend to this fire.

The fire service added in a tweet: “Firefighters are currently attending to a large fire adjacent to the M4 J14-13 motorway. Please limit all emergency calls as crews are extremely busy.

The M4 was closed in both directions between Junction 13 and Junction 14 after debris landed on the carriageway. A diversion is in place and motorists have been warned to be prepared for delays to their journeys.
