A Farewell from Merkel included a 1974 song by future punk rocker Nina Hagen. The Germans ask why.

Like the Chancellors before her, she could request that three songs be played by the Bundeswehr fanfare. Besides Hagen’s aria, his other songs were an 18th century Christian hymn and “Für Mich Soll’s Rote Rosen Regen” by Hildegard Knef or “It Should Rain Red Roses for Me”, a melancholy 1968 song about hopes and teenage dreams.
