A cluster paralyzes the Rennes detention center [Exclusif] – Reindeer

The Administrative Detention Center (CRA) in Rennes has been paralyzed since January 6 due to several cases of covid-19 among those detained, according to several administrative sources. Entries are suspended, as are expulsions, under the health protocol. This situation should last another week and may be renewed in the event of new positive tests.

The Rennes CRA had managed to pass between the drops since the start of the pandemic, despite a few contact cases during 2020. This place where undocumented migrants await their expulsion from the territory had even been emptied during the first confinement.

Saturated “COVID CRAs”

But, two weeks ago, the detection of four retained positive for covid-19 led to the immediate setting of the place. At the end of this period, six new cases were declared. La Cimade, an association that helps detainees in their procedures, can only intervene remotely. “The positives stay with each other. Sometimes, some go to the hospital, we don’t really know what becomes of them, ”confirms a person detained at the Rennes CRA.

In theory, a positive case must be transferred to a dedicated detention center, in Plaisir or Lyon. But these places, nicknamed the “CRA covid”, are now saturated.

Controlling the pandemic is a headache for the CRA, as Le Mensuel de Rennes noted in a rare report authorized on the spot. Admittedly, the detainees have hydroalcoholic gel and two daily masks. But promiscuity reigns, and many fear to submit to the tests, seen as a prerequisite for expulsion from the territory. Contacted, the prefecture did not respond.
