’70s TV star Danny Masterson sentenced to 30 years to life in rape case

Danny Masterson was sentenced to 30 years to life for rape, reports TMZ. the old That 70s show The star was sentenced today in Los Angeles after being found guilty of two of three rape charges in May in a retrial.

The actor was previously charged with raping three women between 2001 and 2003. His first trial, which took place in November 2022, ended in a mistrial, while Masterson was found guilty of the rape of two women at his second trial earlier this year.

After the two Masterson women were convicted of rape and made statements about their traumatic experiences, the actor was sentenced this afternoon by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine F. Olmedo.

A woman, identified as Jane Doe, said: “When you raped me, you robbed me. This is rape, a theft of the mind,” according to Los Angeles newspaper KTLA.

She added: “You are pathetic, disturbed and completely violent. The world is better off with you in prison.

The second woman Masterson was convicted of raping said he “showed no shred of remorse for the pain he caused”, continuing, “I knew he belonged behind the bars for the safety of all the women he came into contact with. I’m so sorry and I’m so upset. I wish I had reported him to the police sooner,” according to KTLA.

Masterson was convicted of raping women in his Hollywood home; all three Jane Does were at the time members of the Church of Scientology, of which Masterson is also a member. The women said they were reluctant to report Masterson’s crimes to the police because of the church, and said the church told them they had not been raped when they shared their stories. assault charges against Masterson with Scientology officials, according to KTLA.

While Masterson had been accused of rape for years before his 2020 charges, complaints against him escalated in 2017 after actress and former Scientology member Lea Remini accused the LAPD of covering up the rape allegations by because of his role in the Church.

Masterson was fired from his role in the Netflix series the ranch in December 2017, in which he starred alongside former That 70s show co-star Ashton Kutcher. He was replaced in the series by Dax Shepard.
