The independentThe image and article digitization project is nearing completion, with many exciting access points to share with readers in the months to come.

Earlier this summer, The independent has partnered with the leading stock agency Alamy to present and make available more than 70,000 iconic independent images to global customers.

The independent launched in 1986 as an innovative broadsheet with an emphasis on quality photojournalism, often forgoing the traditional front-page copy in favor of striking images used across multiple columns. His pioneering use of imagery earned him several industry accolades during the 1990s, including ‘Black and White Journal of the Year’ and ‘British Journal of the Year’ (British Picture Editors’ Awards), as well as’ Best Use of Photography ‘(British Picture Editors’ Awards), Journal Award).

The dramatic use of images in many columns of the wide format newspaper and supplements has been an eye opener and has inspired other large format newspapers to embrace the trend.

Iconic images that featured in The independent and The independent on Sunday between 1986 and 2012 will be available to Alma’s clients in the editorial and creative industries, for use by television and film producers, book and magazine publishers, graphic designers, etc.
