TORONTO – A plane made an emergency landing on Highway 407 in Markham, Ontario on Wednesday morning.
The aircraft landed in the eastbound lanes of the freeway near Woodbine Avenue shortly before 11:00 a.m.
An image circulating on social media showed a single-engine propeller plane on the roadway, with police vehicles parked behind.
Journalists at the scene saw two occupants exiting the plane on foot.
Highway 407 ETR indicates that three lanes of the highway are blocked due to the intervention of the emergency team.
A complete closure of the eastbound lanes or the entire motorway is possible.
There was no word on how many people the plane was carrying or whether anyone was injured.
Public aviation records identify the aircraft as a Piper PA-28 registered with the Caribbean Flying Club in Toronto. Driving on the 407 and it was right in front of us. Started recording after we moved directly behind @ CP24 pic.twitter.com/tUbHzR5TyC
