A 30-year-old man was shot and killed at a Harlem bodega and smoke shop Sunday night, police say.
The victim, identified as Jazeke Samuels, was found with a gunshot wound to the torso and left arm by officers inside Legend’s Exotic Candy Shop at 300 West 142 Street around 6:10 p.m., New York police said.
Samuels was working behind the counter when the shooter shot him, according to surveillance video obtained by ABC7.
The Harlem resident was taken to nearby NYC Health + Hospital-Metropolitan, where he was pronounced dead.
Cops said the store where the shooting took place was a bodega, but police sources said it also served as an unlicensed smoke shop. Smoke shops that aren’t licensed to sell marijuana have often been targets of violent — and even deadly — robberies across the city, because many of them are fee-based businesses.
It’s unclear whether Sunday’s shooting was a robbery gone wrong or what the killer’s motivations were.
The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made, police said.
