3-year-old drowns in swimming pool in Ajax

A three-year-old child who died in Ajax, Ontario. drowned in a nearby backyard pool, police say.

Durham Regional Police say officers were called to a house near Harwood Avenue and Rossland Road West around 5.15pm on Tuesday.

Officials say a young girl was pulled from a backyard swimming pool without vital signs. She was rushed to an area hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

No other details have been released regarding the circumstances of the drowning.

In a press release issued Wednesday, police say they “continue to support the family during this horrific tragedy.”

They also encourage all families to “exercise extreme caution” when it comes to water safety during the warmer months.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact police or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
