2022 World Cup top scorers: Kylian Mbappe edges out Lionel Messi and Olivier Giroud in Golden Boot race

The Frenchman didn’t add to his tally, which includes two assists, as his country beat England to reach the semi-finals, but he still has two games to go in Qatar.
His club teammate Lionel Messi is one behind him in four after scoring his fourth of the tournament against the Netherlands in a dramatic semi-final.
Olivier Giroud is on Messi’s side, as he scored the winner against the Three Lions and continues to take full advantage of Karim Benzema’s absence.
A series of players are sitting on three goals, although their chance to get closer to Mbappe has passed. Bukayo Saka, Cody Gakpo, Marcus Rashford and Richarlison have all now left the tournament.
Goncalo Ramos moved up the Golden Boot standings with a hat-trick for Portugal in the round of 16, but he too is on the way to a comeback after his country’s surprise loss to Morocco.
