Fight against wild gatherings despite the curfew and stem the phenomenon of urban violence on New Year’s Eve: will the Interior Ministry succeed in responding to a double request?

The Minister of the Interior would have asked in particular to set up very “visible” security forces devices in order to dissuade New Year’s Eve revelers who would like to infringe the rules enacted previously: curfew at 8 p.m. and gauge of six people at the table.

Gérald Darmanin wrote in a telegram to all the prefects on December 28: “You will concentrate the action of the police and gendarmerie forces in town centers and sensitive neighborhoods and areas.”

Certain places very supervised

According to information from our colleagues, the minister called in the same telegram to issue orders prohibiting the sale of alcohol and fuel. In addition, the potential gathering places on New Year’s Eve (such as the Champs-Elysées in Paris or the Place Bellecour in Lyon) will be closely watched.

Fearing the traditional urban violence of the New Year, a senior official quoted by The Parisian warns, however: “The government has chosen to favor health over public order, it is a risky bet.”

In this regard, for Ile-de-France, a high-ranking official quoted by the same prognostic source: “Two solutions, either the young people brave the curfew to meet on the Champs-Elysées, or they stay in their neighborhood to wake up. ”

Final information provided by the Ile-de-France newspaper: “At least 100,000 police officers and gendarmes will be mobilized throughout the country to enforce the curfew and carry out reinforced controls. And this from Wednesday evening, 8 p.m. ”
