MOUNT JULIET, TN (WSMV) – Students fell five months behind in math in the 2020-2021 school year, according to a report from McKinsey & Company.

As some students catch up, a fifth-grader from Mount Juliet posts math tutorials on YouTube in hopes of helping some of his peers.

His name is Hayden Sutton, but he’s known as The Math Wizkid on YouTube. He is 10 years old and is on a mission.

“I just wanted to help the kids with math,” Hayden said.

He noticed that his classmates had difficulty learning certain lessons and wanted to record tutorials for them to refer to.

“Most of the kids in my math class don’t really understand it, so I just wanted to help them,” he said. “My goal is to help children at school and even at home to learn and understand math. “

He’s taught classes ranging from Roman numerals to multiplication, and he’s not planning on quitting anytime soon.

“I really love doing the YouTube videos and I just want to keep making them and help more people,” Hayden said.
